At Premier Care, we try to be involved with our local community as much as possible. We sponsor Sherwood Colliery Ability Counts FC – an inclusive football team based in Mansfield Woodhouse.
Established in 2010, Sherwood Colliery Ability Counts FC are based at Debdable Park Sports and Recreational Club in Mansfield Woodhouse. Providing people living with disabilities, learning difficulties or mental health the opportunity to play football in a safe environment.
We’ve found out what they’ve been doing during these difficult times and what they’re doing to start training again – you can read some of their previous updates here.
The team have been back in training for 3 weeks now – following FA and Government guidelines. This includes taking temperatures of all players and providing hand sanitiser before and after training. Training equipment is sanitised before, during and after training. They have even launched their own track and trace of staff, parents, carers and players each week. The club has put every effort into keeping their players and staff as safe as possible.
The club won the leagues due to being current Champions, not quite how they pictured their win! However, the club were happy to accept the win under the current circumstances.
This season the club will join the Ladies in the Leicestershire and Rutland Inclusive League, however – the start has been delayed due to the Leicester Area being restricted. The league are understandably monitoring the situation.
The club were quick to cease training as the start of the COVID outbreak. However, the players were missing the social hub the club gave them. Zoom meetings were set up and every Tuesday the club would hold quiz and fun nights to help keep morale up during lockdown.
It’s been a difficult time for everyone, but club staff have gone above and beyond to help their players through it all. Not just with their quiz nights and zoom meetings, but being able to provide supports and answer any questions they may of had.
The team is desperate for normality and raring to go when the League starts again, fingers crossed for October at the latest!
